Is Christmas knocking at the door? Last-minute tips for holiday preparation
There are certain personality types that can leave everything to the last minute – whether it's writing a paper, studying for an exam, meeting a work deadline, or preparing for the timely Christmas festivities. Dear procrastinator, this unconventional blog post is for you: here’s how to decorate your home for the holidays in just one weekend with the Y Generation Student Union!
Advent Wreath
The best thing about an advent wreath is that you don't even need an actual wreath base anymore: for this version, you’ll need only 4 candles, 4 mugs or glasses, and some natural materials. Fill the mugs/glasses with sand or potting soil and place the candles in them. Cover the top with a few pinecones, walnut shells, acorns, and pine branches, and you’re ready for the festive Sundays!
Advent Calendar
There’s a hidden corner of the universe where the pairs of socks go during washing. It's time to give the life of the orphaned socks meaning by turning them into an advent calendar! Get 24 clothespins and a thick string or ribbon. If you don’t have 24 lonely socks, ask your siblings, friends, or even your parents – there are bound to be a few more in a drawer. Choose brightly colored ones, cute printed ones, or, if possible, Christmas-patterned ones. Fill them with sweets, small gifts, or kind messages, and you’re done!
Christmas Door Hanger
There’s no end to Christmas door hanger ideas: here’s a solution that requires only an empty picture frame, some ribbons, and a few Christmas ornaments. Make a bow out of the ribbons and attach it to one side of the frame, then use a glue gun to attach the ornaments in any arrangement you like. If you feel like it and have the time, you can even repaint the frame in a new color.
Although these decorations don’t cost much, if you need a little extra cash for Christmas gifts, contact our student union!
