1. Sky-High Student Program: Budapest Eye

Budapest's Ferris wheel, modeled after those in Vienna and London, is located in the 5th district’s Erzsébet Square. It was initially set up in the summer of 2013 and was only supposed to be a temporary attraction until the Sziget Festival. However, due to its immense popularity, it was brought back after the festival. The highest point of the Ferris wheel is 65 meters, offering a full panoramic view of the city’s landmarks, from the Danube boats to Buda Castle and the many church towers in Pest. Student tickets are available for 2400 HUF, allowing you three rides on the wheel. If you want to avoid the queue, you can buy your ticket in advance for priority boarding. Don’t worry about the colder weather, as blankets are available for a more comfortable ride. Tickets and more information can be found here.

2. Dance, Music, Film, Literature All in One Place: Müpa

If you prefer a cultural student program, get a ticket to the Palace of Arts (Müpa). This building, commonly known as Müpa in everyday life, is one of Hungary’s most famous cultural brands and one of its most modern cultural institutions. Uniquely, it brings together various art forms: it hosts classical, contemporary, light, jazz, and world music, opera, new circus, dance, literature, and film. Its aim is to present new art trends in a way that is accessible to both connoisseurs and the general public, providing an unforgettable experience. Students can purchase a ticket for 500 HUF for standing places at any event in the Béla Bartók National Concert Hall and Festival Theatre an hour before the start, upon showing a valid student ID. It’s a great deal, isn’t it? Check out the October programs here.

+1: Student Program for Hikers: Zugliget Chairlift

Although there are no student tickets available here, the 1600 HUF round-trip ticket for the Zugliget Chairlift is well worth it for the stunning panoramic view of the city. From the city center, the easiest way to reach it is by taking bus 291 from Nyugati Railway Station. On weekends, the bus runs three times an hour, so make sure to arrive on time. The Zugliget Chairlift was inaugurated on August 20, 1970, and quickly became a popular attraction. The initial plans were made by István Hantos in the 1930s, but due to permit issues and the war, they were forgotten. It wasn’t until 1967, following political relaxation, that the cable car project was revived to the delight of Budapest residents.

The nearly one-kilometer-long route takes passengers up to 262 meters in about 15 minutes. At the top of the 528-meter-high mountain stands the neo-Romanesque Erzsébet Lookout Tower, named after Queen Elisabeth, also known as Sissi.
