But how can you become a Foodora courier, and what does the job entail? What are the benefits and challenges, and what do you need to succeed in this role? In this article, we will provide a detailed guide on how to start working as a Foodora courier and what to expect from this job.

Why Choose a Foodora Courier Job?
“At Foodora, we continuously innovate to bring the world within everyone’s reach.” This is the company’s mission statement, but what does it mean for you as a potential employee?
Foodora was founded 22 years ago and has been continuously evolving since then. Today, the company operates as a tech-driven quick commerce service, making everyday life incredibly convenient for people. In practice, this means that customers can receive almost anything they need within 30 minutes, and you can be part of making that happen.
As we mentioned, Foodora courier jobs are among the most sought-after student job opportunities, mainly because of the flexible working hours. This is particularly important for students attending university or college, as it allows them to work around their class and exam schedules. However, the appeal of this job goes beyond just flexibility, as your earnings are performance-based, meaning you have the opportunity to maximize your income.
Working as a Foodora courier is more than just a typical student job. It offers you a glimpse into the world of freelancing. You do not have to worry about having a boss or a fixed schedule, as you can work whenever you want. Moreover, the location is also flexible, meaning you can choose where to work.

How to Become a Foodora Courier?
Applying for most student jobs, including this one, is a simple and straightforward process.
Here is how you can start working as a Foodora courier in just a few steps.
Registration
Start by registering on our website and applying for the Foodora job. After that, send an email to foodora@ydiak.hu. You will receive an email from us with a contract, which you must read carefully and sign via E-contract.
Once you have signed the contract, confirm this by sending an email to foodora@ydiak.hu.
By signing this agreement, you can work as a Foodora courier exclusively through Y Diák. If you wish to switch to another student cooperative or become a freelancer, you will need to wait for six months unless your student status ends, in which case you can immediately switch to a freelancer.
After signing the contract, our partner company will guide you through the next steps. You will also need to download the "Foodora Rider" app, where you can manage your work shifts, deliveries, and payments.
Understanding Your Earnings as a Foodora Courier
The app will show your estimated earnings, but this is not your actual take-home pay. Here is how the payment system works:
Each worked hour includes a 273.052 HUF service fee, which covers your payroll processing, employment registration, and administrative costs.
If you are under 25 years old, you can calculate your actual earnings as follows:
[Total earnings in the app] – (Worked hours × 273.052 HUF) = Actual payment
If you are over 25 years old, an additional 15 percent income tax applies:
([Total earnings in the app] – (Worked hours × 273.052 HUF)) × 0.85 = Actual payment
Example Calculation:
If your app shows 100,000 HUF as earnings and you worked 30 hours, your actual payment would be:
100,000 HUF – (30 × 273.052 HUF) = 92,888 HUF
For workers over 25 years old:
92,888 HUF × 0.85 = 78,955 HUF (after tax deduction)
It is also important to note that if your monthly earnings exceed 576,601 HUF, the 25-and-under tax exemption does not apply.
You can track your payments every two weeks on the Foodora courier hub website.
Courier Equipment and Deposit
To start working, you need courier gear, but you do not have to buy it upfront. Instead, you must pay a 20,000 HUF deposit, which will be deducted from your first paycheck.
You can monitor this deduction in the app, and once you have earned 20,000 HUF, your deposit requirement will be met. The deposit is fully refundable when you return the equipment.

Insurance and Responsibility
Your contract with Y Diák does not include insurance, so you need to arrange your own coverage.
For motorbikes and cars, you must have valid third-party liability insurance.
For bicycles, insurance is not mandatory, but be aware that if you get injured while working, it is not considered a workplace accident.
Final Steps Before Starting
Medical Examination
You must undergo a medical check-up before starting work. If you already have a valid health booklet and medical certification issued within the last year, simply upload a scanned copy to your Y Diák profile. Otherwise, follow the instructions provided with the medical referral form to complete the necessary examinations.
You cannot start working until you have completed and uploaded your medical documents.
Choosing Your Mode of Transportation
Before starting, you must decide how you want to deliver orders.
- Bicycle Courier: No driver’s license required, environmentally friendly, and provides exercise. If you do not own a bike, you can rent one, but consider rental costs when calculating your earnings.
- Motorbike Courier: Faster delivery and allows you to take longer-distance orders, but you need a motorbike license and a vehicle.
- Car Courier: Requires a driver’s license and vehicle, but may not be ideal in traffic-heavy areas like Budapest.
Preparing for Work
Once you have completed your registration and chosen your transportation method, it is time to prepare for daily work.
Courier work can be physically demanding, especially if cycling. Make sure you are physically prepared for long hours.
Always prioritize safety—wear a helmet and reflective gear, and follow traffic laws.
Navigation skills are crucial—knowing the city’s main roads and alternative routes can help you avoid traffic and complete deliveries faster.
Start Working
The Foodora courier job is a highly flexible student job, allowing you to decide when and where to work.
Peak hours: Afternoons, evenings, and weekends—when demand for food and grocery deliveries is highest.
Work at any time: The job can be easily integrated into your study schedule.
