Happy Employees, Satisfied Employees

What makes an employee happy? Curious about the five key characteristics of a happy employee? Find out in our latest blog post!

“Good humor is the music of work,” said Joseph Fligl, a priest and poet, in the early 1800s. But what exactly makes an employee happy? And why is it crucial for management to ensure that employees feel good about themselves, their workplace, and their environment? Read on to discover the five main traits of a happy employee.

Characteristics of a Happy Employee

A Happy Employee is More Committed

Commitment impacts all performance indicators, yet achieving this attitude in employees today is quite challenging. If someone works solely for the paycheck, they are unlikely to commit to any employer.

Y TIP:

Maintain high levels of motivation to improve employee satisfaction! This indirectly enhances commitment and productivity.

A Happy Employee Has a Positive Attitude

In one of his TED Talks, Shawn Achor stated that the human brain works better when it is happy. His main advice: don't view success as something that makes us happy, but rather see happiness as the key to success!

A Happy Employee Takes Fewer Days Off

It is proven that satisfied employees are less likely to be depressed, frustrated, or stressed. Maintaining employee happiness significantly reduces costs associated with work absences. Happy employees are also less likely to burn out.

A Satisfied Employee is Financially Beneficial

When an employee is satisfied, they perform well. A happy team can achieve results that can later be reinvested in maintaining motivation and satisfaction. Happy workers generally receive higher salaries and better performance reviews than their unhappy counterparts. This creates a continuous cycle driven by corporate management.

Happy Employees Are More Efficient

Satisfied employees make fewer mistakes in their work and are also faster, as they can focus better and are more confident in decision-making.

What Makes an Employee Happy?

Free lunches, games, wellness services, baby bonuses, mandatory vacations. Then there are company phones, laptops, and company cars for middle and senior managers—the list goes on, as these benefits are considered standard in many workplaces. But do these perks truly make employees satisfied?

Most research suggests otherwise. Therefore, companies aim to make valuable employees happy and loyal with benefits such as creating a pleasant workplace atmosphere, supporting family formation, and promoting a healthy work-life balance.

More than half of employees (57%) decide whether to accept a job based on fringe benefits.

Are your employees happy? Remember: if colleagues do not feel valued by their employer, are unhappy in the team, and dissatisfied with their work environment, they will eventually look for another job. Instead of unnecessary stress, leverage the positive aspects of happy employees!
